This beautiful Pousada of Portugal is set high on a hill with a view of the beautiful estuary of the
Sado river. This river serves the city of Setúbal and the Troiá isthmus. The pousada is
located within the walls of the fortress of S. Filipe in a building which dates back
hundreds of years. There is a very large terrace from which you can enjoy fabulous views
and a chapel which is decorated with an amazing collection of azulejos (painted wall
tiles.) It has been a pousada since 1965. It's 14 rooms are air conditioned.

The medieval Palmela Castle was captured by the Moors in the 12th century. This lovely
pousada is just a short drive across the Setúbal Peninsula. A journey through Portuguese
History, this building went from castle to convent, from convent to pousada. It was opened
